Swimmer Kayla Sanchez, who competed for both the Philippines and Canada at the 2024 Olympics in Paris, has been officially approved by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to represent the Philippines at the 2024 Games. The proposal to relax the three-year residence limit for athletes who transfer nations has been approved, according to Philippine Olympic Committee president Bambol Tolentino, who announced the news. Sanchez competed for Canada at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, where she helped the women's 4x100-meter relay team win silver. The 22-year-old's effort in the 2022 World Aquatics Championships earned her two silver medals. Filipina Swimmer Competes in the Paris OlympicsKnown as a great swimmer in Canada, she changed her citizenship in June of last year and competed for the Philippines in the Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, in September, when she was eliminated from the medal race. The swimmer's parents are Filipino; her dad is from Pampanga and her mom is from Baguio City. She was born in Singapore to these parents before she migrated to Canada. With this communication, the International Olympic Committee also contacted World Aquatics and the Canadian Olympic Committee. Sanchez had the option to qualify for the Paris Games in one of three methods: individual, relay, or universal.
