More than 250 goals were scored throughout Dimitar Berbatov's professional soccer career, which saw him play in the top divisions of Germany, England, France, Greece, and India. His most recent effort, however, may prove to be his toughest test yet. Four years after retiring from playing, Berbatov still has lofty goals of changing the face of football in his home country of Bulgaria. According to sports news reports, the desire to share what he has learned while playing at the highest level in Europe drives him, he adds, not fame or fortune. However, the former Manchester United player claims that reform has been difficult to achieve thus far since the Bulgarian Football Union (BFU) and its current president, Borislav Mihaylov, continue to be plagued by several issues. Dimitar Berbatov Will Resolve the Bulgarian Soccer CrisisAs a "consequence" of "a climate which is harmful to Bulgarian football," Mihaylov resigned as president of the BFU in 2019 after it was reported that England players had endured racial abuse when playing against Bulgaria in Sofia. Mihaylov had previously called comments from English players and manager Gareth Southgate that they would suffer racial abuse from the Bulgarian crowd "offensive" and "derogatory" before the match between the two countries. After the game, then-Prime Minister Boyko Borissov of Bulgaria demanded Mihaylov's resignation, saying that it was unacceptable for Bulgarians "to be identified with bigotry and xenophobia." In other news, the gambling market in Jamaica is on the rise. The government wants to develop it into a new gambling hotspot.
