Angelique Kerber, a former world number one, will return to the tennis circuit after a hiatus of eighteen months. After revealing her impending motherhood in August 2022, the German tennis star took a brief hiatus from competition. Just one week before her debut competition, she will compete for Germany in the United Cup and share captaincy duties with Alexander Zverev. Maximilian Marterer, Laura Siegemund, and Tatjana Maria are all part of the squad. According to tennis news reports, speculation regarding Kerber's potential retirement began when she was 35. But she declared her intention to return to the tennis courts shortly after her daughter Liana was born. Kerber had been a top 25 finisher for nine of the previous eleven seasons, with six of those finishes being in the top ten, before her break. Notably, she was ranked first in the world at the end of 2016 and second in 2018. From January 8 to January 13, Kerber will compete in the WTA 500 Adelaide International.
